About Exam

Any student who wants to pursue Master’s/MBA/JD or a doctoral degree in the prestigious universities of USA enters this exam to brighten up the chances of selection. A student can opt for a GRE General Test or a subjective test if the chosen university demands so. Candidates with various scholastic and ethnic backgrounds appear for GRE which offers a ubiquitous extent for evaluating applicants’ credentials.

Test Structure

The test duration is 3 hours and 45 minutes and it’s a one-day test. There are six sections with a 10-minute break following the third section.

  • ¹An anonymous unscored section that does not count-up for your score may be incorporated and may be seen in any sort after the Analytical Writing section. Questions in the unscored section are being tried out either for possible use in future tests or to ensure that scores on new editions of the test are comparable to scores from earlier editions.
  • ²A well-known research section that does not count towards scoring may be included in place of the unscored section just like in TOEFL. Questions in this section are included for ETS research purposes and they are usually the last ones in the section .
  • The sequence of the sections is – The Analytical Writing, The Verbal Reasoning & Quantitative Reasoning.

Before registering yourself assess the checklist below to acquaint yourself with the various procedures, available services and registration options.

  1. You are responsible for bringing valid and acceptable ID when you report to a test center, and it must match the first and last name you used when creating your account and registering for your test.
  2. The test is offered year round on a first-come, first-served basis. View seat availability for your preferred date and location.
  3. Be sure to allow sufficient time for score reporting when scheduling your test so you can meet the admissions deadlines for the schools to which you are applying.
  4. Create an ETS account to get the most up-to-date test center information. Not all test centers are open on all dates.
  5. Determine which graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors you want to receive your scores. As part of your test fee, you can designate up to four score recipients.
  6. If you prefer to send score reports later or want to send score reports to more than four recipients, you can send additional score reports for a fee.
  7. Fees are stated in U.S. dollars. Fees effective July 1, 2020. Fees are subject to change without notice. At present the fee charges for Indian Students is $213.

  • You can get an unofficial score report copy from your testing center immediately after you finish and submit your test. The official copy will reach you in three weeks.
  • Your GMAT official scores are valid for five years.
  • You may take the exam up to five times a year, but only once during any 16-day period.
  • You have the option to cancel your scores on test day following your Score Preview, or for a fee, within 72 hours of your scheduled exam time.
  • The cancelled scores can be reinstated up to four years and 11 months from the exam date.
  • You can reschedule or cancel your exam online or by phone. If you are scheduled with accommodations, refer to your approval letter for the number to call.

SAT® (Scholastic Aptitude Test)

About Exam

The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions for undergraduate degrees. It is an objective type, paper-based test formed and controlled by the College Board.

Objective – to measure a high school student’s willingness for college. Overall, the better your scores are on the SAT, the more alternatives for universities you will get to choose from.

Test Structure

SAT is a 3 hours long test and you can add 50 more minutes to it if you are opting for an Optional Essay as well. It has 2 compulsory and 1 optional section.

The 2 compulsory sections are:

    • Maths
    • Evidence Based Reading & Writing

The 1 Optional Section is:

    • Essay

SAT Essay scores are reported separately from overall test scores. Specific University may require that you complete the SAT Essay. Therefore, you should research well about the university’s specifications before you chose to skip the Essay.

Apart for this general SAT, you can also appear for SAT Subject Tests if your chosen university demands for it. The process for registering and the test structure remains the same for it as well.

Score Pattern

Each section of the SAT is scored on a 200 minimum to 800 maximum point scale. SAT score is the amount of your section scores. The highest being1600. Essay is scored separately.

ACT® (American College Test)

About Exam

The ACT is an entrance exam to make admissions decisions for undergraduates. It is an objective type, paper-based test formed and controlled by ACT, Inc.

Objective – to measure a high school student’s willingness for college. Overall, the better your scores are on the ACT, the more alternatives for universities you will get to choose from.

Test Structure

ACT is a 2 hour and 55 minutes long test and you can add 40 more minutes to it if you are opting for an ACT with Writing as well.

It has 4 compulsory and 1 optional section.

The 4 compulsory sections are:

    • English
    • Maths
    • Reading
    • Science

The 1 Optional Section is : Writing

ACT Writing scores are reported separately from overall test scores. Specific University may require that you complete the ACT Writing. Therefore, you should research well about the university’s specifications before you chose to skip the Writing.

Each section of the ACT is scored on a 1 to 36-point scale. ACT score is the average of your section scores. The highest being 36. Writing is scored separately.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

About Exam

It’s an International Standardized Test generally taken by non-native English Speakers to study in an English-Speaking Country. The test assesses the proficiency of English language. Currently it is managed by British Council and IDP Australia. The validity of the test is 2 years. There are two types of test – General and Academic IELTS. For students seeking to pursue their studies in an English-speaking country Academic IELTS is required.

Test Structure

The test can be given both the ways that is electronically as well as paper based. There are 4 sections – Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking.

The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day, with no breaks in between them. The Speaking section, however, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. Your test center will advise.

The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Score Pattern

The scoring is done in a Band Score Pattern. Band score conversion

A Band Score conversion table is produced for each version of the Listening test which translates scores out of 40 into the IELTS 9-band scale. Scores are reported in whole bands and half bands.

One mark is awarded for each correct answer in the 40-item test. Care should be taken when writing answers on the answer sheet as poor spelling and grammar are penalized.

All the Sections are given marking on Score Bands of 9 and then an average is taken for the main score.

TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

About Exam

It Language is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers preparing to join in English-speaking universities. The test is acceptable in almost every prominent English-Speaking University. The validity of the exam is 2 years.

Test Structure

The exam is managed by ETS. It’s a 3-hour test constituting of 4 Sections- Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking. You can give it in 2 formats- electronically (TOEFL iBT) as well as pen paper based. TOEFL iBT is preferred by most of the institutes so it is advisable to opt for it.

The score Range is 0 to 30 for each of the 4 sub sections which in the end are sum totaled for the final score which can go to a maximum of 120.

About Exam

It Language is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers preparing to join in English-speaking universities. The test is acceptable in almost every prominent English-Speaking University.

Test Structure

It’s a one-hour online test and is accepted by 2000 plus institutions. It has an adaptive test of 45 minutes which grades you in Reading, Speaking, Listening & Writing along with a Video Interview of 10 minutes which basically deals with open ended questions.

The Duolingo English Test calculates English proficiency and reports scores on a scale out of 160 in 5-point increments. Test results include an overall score as well as sub scores of Literacy, Conversation, Comprehension, and Production.

PTE (Pearson English Language Test)

About Exam

PTE Academic is the first entirely computer-based English language test for international study. PTE Academic scores are accepted by most of the institutions and approved for all UK, Australian and New Zealand visa and immigration categories. Test sessions can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance, 365 days a year.

Test Structure

The test assesses the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. It lasts approximately 3 hours and provides a score based on the GSE (Global Scale of English).

Throughout the test you ned to answer 20 different questions types.

Part 1: Speaking and Writing (77 – 93 minutes)

Part 2: Reading (32 – 4- minutes)

Part 3: Listening (45 – 57 minutes)

Score Pattern

The Global Scale of English aligns with a variety of popular tests and scales around the world. Scores for some item types are based on correctness alone, while others are based on correctness, formal aspects and the quality of the response.

Correct or incorrect: If responses are correct, a score of 1 score point will be given, but if they are incorrect, no score points are awarded.

The PTE Academic Score Report includes your overall score, communicative skills scores and enabling skills scores. The overall score reflects your overall English language ability. The score is based on performance on all items in the test. The range for the overall score is 10-90 points.

Scores for communicative skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) are based on all test items that assess these skills, either as a single skill or together with other skills. The range for each communicative skill score is 10-90 points.

Scores for enabling skills (grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and written discourse) are based on all test items assessing one or more of these skills. The range for each enabling skill score is 10-90 points.

The display of the scores in a graph allows you to quickly see your strengths and weaknesses, and how each skill relates to your overall performance.

Test day checklist:

You must provide an acceptable identification document to take a PTE test. This will usually be your passport.

  • The same ID details shared when booking the test must be presented by the test taker on the day of the test.
  • The name on the ID should exactly match the name used when booking the test.
  • If you fail to produce the required ID you will not be allowed into the test room and will lose your test fee.
  • Copies will not be accepted. The original document must be provided. No other ID will be accepted at the test center.
  • When you arrive at the Pearson test center our Test Center Administrators will guide you through our check in process to make sure you understand and are comfortable with our rules and procedures.
  • They will request copies of your ID, ask for a digital photograph and signature, scan your palm, assign you a locker to check-in your belongings, and ensure you are ready for your test.
